Sentara and The College of William & Mary have partnered to host the 36th Colonial Half Marathon and 5K. Both, the half marathon and 5K, will begin on William & Mary’s campus - with a processional to the start line by the Fife and Drum Company. The half marathon course passes through scenic Williamsburg; while, the 5K traverses the William & Mary campus. Both events finish in William & Mary Hall. Below are additional details for the race:
-Time limits 3:00:00 for half marathon, 1:00:00 for 5K run;
-Chip timing will be used for both races;
-Top three (3) finishers in each age group receive medals;
-Prize money issued to the top three (3) men and women in the half Marathon (please note: the winner of the overall race is not eligible to win the ‘Masters’ category);
-Finish line in William & Mary Hall, where post-race reception and awards ceremony is hosted;
-Access to locker rooms and hot showers;
-All proceeds benefit the Tribe Club and the William & Mary Track and Field Program.
Family and friends are welcome to watch the finish from the William & Mary arena upper seating area; however, only competitors and officials will be allowed on the arena floor. Spectators and strollers are not allowed on the course for safety reasons. Since the race takes will be conducted on private roads and public motorways, a course map will not be released until the day of the race and pre-runs are not permitted. Packet pick-up will be, at 10:00AM, the day of the race at William & Mary Hall.
The 5K race will begin at 1PM. Immediately following the start of the 5K, the half marathon will commence at 1:10PM.
New this year, there will be the Fun Run starting at 1:50PM at William & Mary Hall. The Fun Run is approximately one-half mile and will be run around William & Mary Hall. The Fun Run will finish inside William & Mary Hall, as will the other races. Participants will receive a finishing award.
Sentara is a proud partner, with The College of William & Mary, in supporting the Sentara Colonial Half Marathon and 5K. By sponsoring this event, Sentara hopes to help further its advocacy for the prevention and early detection of heart disease in the community - the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Sentara encourages everyone to run, or walk, for your heart, this February. The American Heart Association recommends that all healthy adults, 18 to 65 years of age, should be getting at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity per week.
